Research Interests:

  • Auditory perception: Spatial auditory perception, binaural hearing, speech intelligibility, auditory attention, audio-visual (and other cross-modal) interaction, effect of reverberation on perception, physiologically-based modeling of auditory perception, learning and adaptation in new auditory spaces.
  • Pattern recognition: Statistical, neural-network, and machine-learning methods for pattern recognition. Memory-based learning systems (e.g., k-Nearest Neighbor, ARTMAP).
  • Scientific study of human perception and cognition.
  • Two simple demonstrations can be found here and here (use headphones, close your eyes, don’t move your head and concentrate on where the sounds are coming from.
